Following the Government’s initial announcements in September 2025, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has now released further details regarding the new Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) framework set to take effect on 24 August 2026.

These residence options each have their own eligibility rules, wage requirements, work experience criteria, and qualification requirements.

For some migrants, these changes will create broader opportunities. For others, the pathway may become narrower and more challenging, requiring careful planning.

The question is no longer just “Can I get residence? ” It’s “Which pathway gives me the best chance of getting residence?”
