What You’ll Do as a Protection Technician

In generic terms and company dependant, you’ll be:

  • Managing HV substation, transformers and switch gear maintenance, repairs, and installations
  • Testing, and programming of substation and electrical assets
  • Fault finding, troubleshooting and resolving equipment issues based on research and team consultation
  • Carrying out relevant quality checks and audits
  • Ensuring occupational Health & Safety measures are in place and followed within your area


What you’ll need

  • Bachelor in Electrical Engineering or an Electrical certificate or licence
  • Minimum 5+ years industry experience in power assets
  • Hold registration – full, provisional or limited depending on job – from Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) as an Electrician or Electrical Engineer
  • Practical industry related experience
  • Demonstrated experience in underground cable testing
  • Experience with HV, substation, or power transmission is desirable
  • Experience working on an electrical distribution network is highly desirable
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong technical knowledge on industry standards and codes
