Assess Your Path to a Resident Visa

If you’re working in a skilled job, you may be eligible for residence under different pathways. Your eligibility depends on your role, salary and, work experience.

Skilled Migrant Resident (SMR)

  • A pathway for those working in a Green List role (e.g. where there is a skill shortage).

Skilled Migrant Category (SMC)

  • Pathway 1: The 6-Point Pathway

  • Pathway 2: Skilled Work Experience Pathway (from August 2026)

  • Pathway 3: Trades and Technician Pathway (from August 2026)

See more detailed RV information HERE.

Why a Residence Visa Pathway Assessment is Crucial

The new rules are highly individualised.

Many migrants who previously believed residence wasn’t an option may now qualify under a different pathway, while others may need to take specific steps now to maximise future eligibility.

Our Immigration Advisers are experts – highly experienced with proven track record of success.  They will assess:

  • which residence pathway is best for you
  • whether you already meet the requirements or what steps you need to take next
  • what evidence Immigration New Zealand will expect
  • what you need to do now to strengthen your future application
  • how your partner and dependent children may be included

INZ will also look at:

  • Accredited Employer Work Visa (with exceptions)
  • Personal characteristics (<55 age at application)
  • Work experience
  • Salary
  • Health
  • Character
  • English language
